Why now

There are two key trends we’re betting on as a firm. First, software has become a commodity. Second, that the loneliness epidemic in the U.S. is catastrophic. The ultimate moat to combat both of these trends is backing companies whose members are obsessive, loyal, and deeply connected to the brand. We’re excited to back the inevitable success of community-driven startups over the next decade. We call these companies: elephants.

  • Stage: preseed & seed, $20M post valuation & under

  • Type of company: elephant company ethos (community-driven, purpose-driven, founder building in public)

    • See our poster on our merch page, which further clarifies how we like our founders to talk about their company

    • Unique traits we look for in elephant founders: serial founders (they typically understand distribution > product), community builders at their core (have a podcast, started a conference, host a book club), very contrarian, and most importantly… they’re deeply customer obsessive

  • Elephant company examples: larger companies we’re excited about (for pattern matching): Whatnot, Canva, Notion, Github, Discord, Replit, etc.

  • We love to support our founders with asks as big as finding a founding CTO to as small as helping gut check marketing copy. We in particular like to help with all things GTM, public-facing founder comms, and fundraising intros. For the most recent company we invested in, we introduced them to the lead for their seed and 90% of the capital in that round.
